In order to promote a campaign of public awareness against domestic violence, Broward County Sheriff Lamberti is appearing this month in a public service announcement on local television to urge battered women to get help.
Last year, in Florida, a state of 18 million people, there were over 115,000 cases of domestic violence reported. Over 160 of those cases involved deaths.

Years ago there was a cigarette commercial for a cancer stick named ‘Virginia Slims,’ marketed to women. The campaign congratulated feminists by saying: “You’ve come a long way, Baby.”
Another Madison Avenue claim that always got to me was one where a housewife was featured in the laundry room washing her husband’s shirts. The husband comes in, puts on one of the shirts, notices how clean it is and how sharp the collars are, and says: “My wife, I think I will keep her.”

Poor Jack Thompson.
If you have been following the legal debacle that is Jack Thompson, you know by now he was nearly judicially reprimanded for filing gay porn attachments in his federal lawsuit against the Florida Bar.
You know by now he has been accusing me and this site of criminally trafficking in obscenity, and has asked that we be criminally prosecuted. He also sought to join me into his lawsuit as a defendant.

Some Light on the Jack Thompson Follies

As a gay rights lawyer for 30 years in South Florida, I have met some incredibly wild and weird people, from Fred Phelps to Anita Bryant.
Twenty years ago, there was this guy who wanted radio talk show host Neil Rogers off the air not only because Neil was openly gay but because he was purportedly soliciting teenage boys for sex on the air.
