Anti-Luzhkov protesters arrested in Moscow
And other national headlines from Rex Wockner
Three pro-gay protesters were arrested June 27 outside the European Commission office in Moscow during a picket by 25 people urging the European Union to revoke Mayor Yuri Luzhkov's right to travel in the 25-country bloc.
The protesters said Luzhkov doesn't deserve to visit the EU because he has twice banned Moscow's gay pride parade, calling it "satanic."
Police halted the protest and arrested its apparent leaders even though the activists had a permit for the event. They were charged with "breach of a street demonstration order."

And other international news from Rex Wockner
Gay pride didn't go well in Moldova for the third year in a row.
Authorities in the capital, Chisinau, banned all public pride activities again, despite a Supreme Court ruling that last year's ban was illegal.
The city says pride events threaten public order, offend Christian values and promote sexual propaganda.
Despite the ban, gay activists attempted to lay flowers April 27 at a monument to victims of repression. They were stopped by police, who said a permit was required for the action.

Gen. Pace Targeted

About 250 people picketed the Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Manhattan March 15 in a demo that is being seen as the likely resurrection of ACT UP.
The picket was organized two nights earlier at New York City's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center after legendary activist and writer Larry Kramer gave a rousing 59-minute speech on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of ACT UP's formation.
"We must realize that gay people are hated," Kramer said in an interview. "I want this new ACT UP to be an army confronting this hate in every way we can."
