Groups work to raise awareness of everyday speech

Erica DeLaney, a 16-year-old Morristown High School student, hears students declaring something they consider stupid or lame to be "gay" at least 10 times during a typical school day, she said.

"I failed my test. That's so gay." "The security guard took my cell phone. That's so gay." And when male students compliment each other, she said, they qualify it by saying they're not gay.  "I like your shirt -- no homo."
