It comes with the conjugal territory that you sometimes find yourself signed up to a joint enterprise that you would never in your life have agreed to as an independent person of sound mind. This week, my other half and I travelled from our home in St Andrews to Farmers’ and Fletchers’ Hall in the City of London to deliver, respectively, the toast to the Lassies and the response to the toast to the Lassies at a Burns Supper.
