Third Annual Big Gay Weekend Conference
Colgate University – April 18 & 19, 2008
In an effort to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) issues, Colgate University will host a conference on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.
College students and community members from across the Northeast have been invited to take part in a series of workshops aimed at breaking down barriers related to sexual orientation.
Magdalen Hsu-Li, an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, painter, and cultural activist will give the keynote address and perform on Saturday night. A pioneering Asian-American woman in music, Magdalen is one of the first openly out bisexual Chinese-American singer-songwriters in the United States.

Their performance received a nomination for a Lucille Lortel award (an off-Broadway Tony) for Best Musical of 2001 and a Drama Desk award nomination for Best Lyrics.

Keynote Address and Performance

Her keynote address will begin with a high energy, live music performance. Afterward, Magdalen will have a one hour interactive “human interest” lecture exploring the search for “cultural identity” through the personal story of the presenter as an out, Asian American, woman growing up in the rural south.
Colgate Dischords (a cappella group) and Earthman Embassy (student band) perform

Professional Drag Queens and Kings will be here to entertain us as we join them in a night of dancing. Come dressed to impress- there will be prizes for the best Queen and King!
