Coming Out From Behind The Badge
Authors to speak next month at Gay Officers' Action League Conference in Washington DC to hundreds of gay and lesbian police officers and deputy sheriffs from around the world.
Greg Miraglia announced today that he and other contributing authors from "Coming Out From Behind The Badge" will be speaking at the Mid-Atlantic Gay Officers' Action League (GOAL) Annual Conference in Washington DC. This unique group of writers will be facilitating a workshop on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 about coming out in the law enforcement work place and how to overcome law enforcement's unwritten, "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
The GOAL conference draws hundreds of LBGT law enforcement officers from all over the United States as well as from countries around the world. The conference is being held during the annual police memorial week in Washington DC. Mr. Miraglia said, "This is an incredible opportunity for law enforcement officers to come together to honor those who have given their life in service to others. What makes this year even more special is that it will include a large number of LGBT law enforcement participants from all over the world who are still struggling to find their place in a profession that is still largely homophobic and unwelcoming. I think this conference is a very positive step in the right direction and I hope to meet many straight allies who are there for police week alongside their law enforcement gay and lesbian brothers and sisters."
As a board member of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Mr. Miraglia said, "I'm very excited about having Judy Shepard participating at the conference as the keynote speaker. She is an inspiration for me and is a huge supporter of the law enforcement profession." In his book, Mr. Miraglia writes about how through meeting Judy Shepard he was able to come out and live his life fully while also enjoying a highly successful law enforcement career.
