Boston Men's Chorus
Will Present Crescendo
The internationally acclaimed Boston Gay Men's Chorus will present Crescendo, its annual benefit gala, on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 7 pm at the Roxy Ballroom. More than 500 Chorus patrons and friends are expected to attend the celebration which includes entertainment by special guest Miss Richfield, live and silent auctions with one-of-a-kind items up for bid, a sumptuous array of gourmet desserts, and cocktails and socializing.
The event is expected to raise $100,000 to support the BGMC's concerts and groundbreaking community outreach programs.
Special guest hostess and entertainer for the event will be Miss Richfield 1981. This Midwestern maven is winning over audiences around the country with homespun warmth and edgy improv, leaving audiences in hysterics with a truly original performance. National appearances have included "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Today" on NBC. Miss Richfield's history begins with her life-long goal of being crowned beauty queen of her first-ring suburb of Minneapolis in 1981. Since then, she continues to promote the values and principles of Richfield, Minnesota, "where butter is a spice and gravy is a beverage."
BGMC executive director Steven Smith said, "Crescendo is a vital source of funds that support our programs such as our high school outreach concerts and performances in suburban and rural communities around New England." More than 150 auction items will be up for bid including a variety of theater tickets, fine dining certificates, home goods, art, plus unique items including an all expense paid trip to Baltimore with homeplate seats for a Red Sox – Orioles game at Camden Yards, a Las Vegas trip, a NYC Broadway weekend, Drag Camp for 4 with Verna Turbulence, and the chance for a walk on performance at an upcoming performance of ExtrABBAganza.
Benefit tickets for Crescendo range from $50 to $100 per person and advance registration by April 30 is strongly advised.
As New England's largest GLBT cultural organization, the 150 member Boston Gay Men's Chorus creates a more tolerant society through the power of music. Under the leadership of Music Director Reuben M. Reynolds III, the Boston Gay Men's Chorus sings a wide spectrum of classical and popular music with excellence and provides a positive and affirming image of the gay and lesbian community. The Chorus performs for more than 10,000 people annually, and has raised over $260,000 for glbt issues and charities over its history. -- www.bgmc.org
