Two recent court decisions will give high-powered ammunition to both sides of the gay marriage debate in Florida.

Proponents of an amendment banning gay marriage point to yesterday’s pro-gay marriage ruling by a California court and say, “See, these activist judges are exactly why we need to vote a ban into the Florida constitution.”

And gay-rights activists look to a recent Michigan court ruling which threatens domestic partnership benefits because of a state constitutional ban on gay marriage and say, “See, this is why the ballot proposal is so dangerous – these bans don’t just stop gay marriages but also strip benefits and rights that have already been established.”
