Fred Sainz, the communications director for San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, is leaving for a similar position at the Gill Foundation in Denver. The non-profit group provides money to gay and lesbian organizations across the nation.

“I'm leaving because this is a great opportunity for me to serve the gay and lesbian community,” Sainz said. “I'm really excited about it.”
