A former Sandy Springs police lieutenant, fired for what city officials have called a "disregard" for following policies, said Tuesday she plans to contest her dismissal and file a discrimination lawsuit.

Trudi Vaughan, speaking publicly before entering a procedural hearing at police headquarters, said she was fired unfairly, for making decisions that had been authorized by her superiors, or for doing things that male supervisors had done without being disciplined.
