Peace Corps Now Open to People with HIV
The American Civil Liberties Union has gotten the Peace Corps to drop its blanket ban on volunteers with HIV. The aid group had sent Jeremiah Johnson home from his stint in Ukraine after he took an HIV test and it came back positive earlier this year.
According to an ACLU release, the Peace Corps will now assess each volunteer with HIV individually to determine how best to protect his or her health and to continue service "when feasible."
