Village of Tequesta Recognizes
Domestic Partners
In concluding collective bargaining with its three unions, the Village of Tequesta (population 5,788) has expanded the definition of "immediate family" to include domestic partners.
The new definition is included in the contracts between the Village and the Professional Fire Fighters/Paramedics of Palm Beach County, the Communications Workers of America, and the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association. The three contracts are in effect through September 30, 2010.
"Once again, the Village of Tequesta has taken steps to ensure that all Village employees are treated equally," said Rand
Hoch, President of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council.
The Council, a non-profit civil rights organization, first began working with the Village on employment issues in 2007.
Last year, Tequesta became one of the first municipalities in Florida to prohibit discrimination based on "gender identity or expression."
