Over 300 supporters marched from the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center
to the State Capitol.
Featured speaker was Gretchen Bender. Bender is Sacramento County's
only gay elected official and the first DYKE ever elected to office in
Sacramento County history.
At the state capitol there was a brief program featuring Jean Adams,
field organizer for Equality California and a performance by True
Colors Women's Chorus.
"We see this march as a way of bringing together the many active and
diverse groups that make up Sacramento's women's community in a
unifying and joyous event," said Bonnie Osborn, a member of the march
organizing committee. "As with any event where you get lots of women
together, we think the Dyke March will be empowering, a little bit
boisterous and a lot of fun."
The Dyke March was organized by members of Women On Wednesdays, or WOW,
a facilitated discussion group that meets weekly at the Sacramento Gay
& Lesbian Center, along with representatives from other community
organizations.
